MCA Architects have been appointed to design a new scheme for the redevelopment of the Crumlin Shopping Centre on the main Crumlin Road.
It includes a new layout of 14,000m2 of retail floor space with ample parking of 490 spaces. The new scheme will rearrange the existing smaller retail units, create a new mall and relocate the service yard.
The overall look and feel will be a significant departure from its current form and will increase customer flow and enhance the shopping experience for the neighbourhood.

One large dunnes isnt a retail shopping centre
It should be revamped and NEW stores into the area , it was once a lively and flourishing part of the community with the right minds behind it , it can be again, dont let it go to waste
Patricia Ryan
Good Evening Gareth,
Drimnagh Residents Community Group have looked at the Dublin City Development Plan 2016-2022 which plans to develop around the perimeter of Drimnagh. The Naas Road Area Plan has identified several new Primary Urban Centres (Kylemore Road Junction, Walksinstown Avenue, Longmile Road and Crumlin Shopping Centre). I have no doubt they are major plans for this development.

Looks lovely, only hope they don’t do what they did in rathmines, only brand named goods and very expensive to shop in, hopefully they keep all the dunnes brand that I love.
Patricia Ryan
Good Evening Philly,
Dunnes Stores will be the main retailer and I am sure other boutique services will be added to it including a coffee shop and other services.

Please please please restore the swimming pool and allow small local business like cafe bookstore florist into the centre. It once was a wonderful array of small businesses. A citizen’s information centre would also enhance. As Drimnagh has no village it should be named just that “Drimnagh Village”
Patricia Ryan
Good Evening Myra,
Many thanks for your comment. Crumlin Shopping Centre is destined to become the Prime Urban Centre for Crumlin/Drimnagh. Longmile Road, Walkinstown Avenue and Kylemore Road Junction will also become new villages. As Crumlin Shopping Centre is located on the southeast perimeter of Drimnagh, it remains to be seen if this will be Drimnagh Village.
Regards.

Looks great. Would look better in reality rather than a proposed plan. I say go for it. 👍🏻 Would bring a lot of business back to Crumlin once again.
Patricia Ryan
Good Evening Jack,
Thanks for your comment. Crumlin Shopping Centre is expected to the Prime Urban Centre for the area.

Please consider maximising plants and trees into this development plus the use of passive design and renewable energy. Also please consider ways to minimise plastic within the building eg include a whole foods store and quality eco friendly toy shop.
For nature, consider a green roof or walls. Avoid landscaped exotic ornamental plants and choose native plants or pollinator friendly plants and herbs. Consider including a garden space that a restaurant can harvest herbs, at least, from.

Good Evening Lisa,
Very many thanks for your email. We fully agree with you with regards to all future developments in the area. The Crumlin Shopping Centre will be known as the Primary Urban Centre for Crumlin Road. The Dublin City Development Plan 2016-2021 has outlined new villages at the junctions of Kylemore Road, Walkinstown Avenue, Walkinstown Roundabout, Longmile Road and Crumlin Road. New developments are due to be built around the perimeter of Drimnagh with little or no planning around infrastructure for the community. The Drimnagh Residents Community Group are seeking for a Canal Style Village to be developed that will enhance the southside of the canal. However, any future developments need to give community gain to the area in terms of commercial infrastructure, widening of the public realm and appropriate amenities for the area.
Tidy Drimnagh are currently implementing their Biodiversity Plan for Drimnagh and are mapping areas where bins are needed. They are also working with Dublin City Council to plant trees on Davitt Road (when developments are commpleted) and Galtymore Road, additional trees will be planted in Brickfield Park also. The Naas Road Area Plan will see the development of Landsdowne Valley Park within the next few years. There will be an upgrade of green/open spaces along the Linear Park from Basin Lane to Blackhorse and an extension of the cycleway from Portobello to Blackhorse will be designed along the Inchicore side of the canal.
We will keep you updated on strategies and developments in the area.
Regards.

Is there any update on this, as there has been no movement at all except the boarding up of the front, which frankly is now an eyesore,
thanks
Patricia Ryan
Hi Francois,
The planning permission that had been granted to Dunnes Stores to redevelop the Crumlin Shopping Centre expired in March 2020. To date they have not reapplied for planning to either An Bord Pleannala or Dublin City Council Planning Department.
